Shops, offices, flats and commercial buildings

Scaffolding wrapped in sheeting on a building lit up at night

What helps us quote

The address, which sides of the building need scaffolding, what the work is and when it starts. Drawings or photos help if you have them.

If a main contractor is running the job, put us in touch with them so the scaffold suits their programme.

If the building stays open

Say so at the start. Entrances, fire exits, deliveries and bin stores all affect where the scaffold can go, and it’s much easier to plan round them before anything goes up.

On the high street

Most shop fronts sit right on the pavement. Section 169 of the Highways Act 1980 says scaffolding put up on or over a highway needs a written licence from the highway authority, which is usually the council.

The council’s licence comes with conditions. Caerphilly County Borough Council, for example, asks for 2.1m of headroom and 1.2m of footway kept clear for people walking past, with lights on the scaffold after dark.

Questions, answered.

Anything else, call and ask Paul.

Can the scaffold be planned around our opening hours?

Tell us your hours and how people get in and out when we quote, and we’ll tell you what can be done.

Do you scaffold blocks of flats?

Yes. Send the address, which sides need doing and what the work is, and we’ll price it.
