Around the town

From the High Street in the middle of town out to Woodfieldside, Cefn Fforest and Oakdale, with Pontllanfraith to the south and Argoed further up the valley.

Houses, flats, shops and commercial buildings. The shops along the High Street sit right on the pavement, so a scaffold on a shop front will nearly always need the council’s licence. Tell us what the work is and when it starts.

Caerphilly’s licence rules

Blackwood is in Caerphilly county borough, the same council as Caerphilly and Risca. It says any scaffolding onto or over the highway needs its licence, and that the scaffolding company, not the customer, has to make sure it’s been applied for and granted.

The council aims to give its decision within 48 hours. The permit lasts 30 days from confirmation, and if the scaffold is still needed after that, it’s reapplied for with 48 hours’ notice. So tell us early if your dates move.
